# child pays for parent

A way to raise a stuck transaction's fee: spend one of its outputs in a child transaction with a high [fee rate](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/fee-rate/), so that miners have reason to include both. The parent must appear in the chain before the child, so a miner who wants the child's fee must confirm the parent too.
