## What it is

degent.club is the [Decentralized Gentlemen Club](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/decentralized-gentlemen-club/). In its own words it
is "a community-driven 10K ordinal collection of unique Pepes in tuxedos,
built on Bitcoin". The collection is 10,000 when fully minted:
4,112 inscribed (as of 2026-09-25 23:24:51 UTC). Its README describes the
project as the collection plus "the automated, non-custodial mint that lets
anyone add a Degent, up to a block-sized one, from the website with no
human in the loop". Each piece is a [Degent](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/degent/). The project is maintained
by [Blockspace Holdings](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/blockspace-holdings/) with its community.

## Status

Live at https://degent.club (as of 2026-10-20). It has been public since
2026-10-19 13:36Z. Blockspace Holdings names it one of its three most
important holdings, with block.space and scribb.it.

## How it works

The website is one React + Vite app: home, the collection gallery, the Full
Block Exhibit, the [Atelier](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/atelier/), the comic, the blog, the club, and the
[Degent mint](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/degent-mint/) at https://degent.club/mint. The mint and its SDK live in the public
DegentClub/degent repository, which builds on a shared platform,
DegentClub/scribbit (the platform behind [Scribbit](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/scribbit/)), pinned as a git
submodule. A minted Degent must meet the club's rules (a square image, a
Pepe in a tuxedo with a bowtie, the [frame and placard](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/frame-and-placard/)), and the frame
and placard are part of the mint's automated art review. Day-to-day changes
go through pull requests under [lazy consensus](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/lazy-consensus/); significant ones need an
[Architecture Decision Record](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/architecture-decision-record/).

## Key figures

- 4,112 Degents inscribed (as of 2026-09-25 23:24:51 UTC), of 10,000 when
  fully minted.
- In a count on 2026-10-20, the 4,112 inscribed Degents totalled 1.51 GB,
and the largest was 3.96 MB.

## Glossary

- **Architecture Decision Record**: How the Degent code makes a significant decision: a new component or service, a change of data flow, a signing or custody model, security architecture, a breaking contract change, or a new dependency on a service the project does not run. An ADR is proposed in a pull request under `docs/adr/`, open for comment for at least 5 business days, and accepted by the owning team or teams. An accepted ADR is never edited; a later ADR supersedes it.
- **Atelier**: A section of the degent.club website and a service in the Degent code. Its code renders the Degent [frame and placard](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/frame-and-placard/). The code is Apache-2.0, but images it produces that carry the frame and placard may not be published, sold, inscribed or minted as Degents or under the club's marks.
- **Decentralized Gentlemen Club**: The collection and club at degent.club. In its own words, "a community-driven 10K ordinal collection of unique Pepes in tuxedos, built on Bitcoin". The 10K is its size when fully minted, not a count: 10,000 when fully minted, 4,112 inscribed (as of 2026-09-25 23:24:51 UTC).
- **Degent**: A Degent is an [inscription](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/inscription/) in the [Decentralized Gentlemen Club](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/decentralized-gentlemen-club/) collection at degent.club. The club's minting rules (on its site as captured in September 2026) ask for a square JPEG of at least 200KB showing a Pepe character in a tuxedo with a mandatory bowtie, framed, with a placard that says "DEGEN", "DEGENT" or "REGEN" (the [frame and placard](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/frame-and-placard/)).
- **Degent mint**: degent.club's "automated, non-custodial mint that lets anyone add a Degent, up to a block-sized one, from the website with no human in the loop", at degent.club/mint. Its service, `degent-mint`, holds the order state machine, the art review, a policy signer and lanes; `degent-mint-sdk` holds the rules, domain types and a typed API client. The rules set no cap per wallet: "Mint as many as you want".
- **frame and placard**: The ornamental gold picture frame and the placard reading `DEGEN`, `DEGENT` or `REGEN` that every [Degent](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/degent/) carries. The club's minting rules require it ("Must be framed and include a placard"), and the [Degent mint](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/degent-mint/)'s automated art review checks it. As a visual design and trade dress it is not licensed (all rights reserved), even where the code that draws it is Apache-2.0.
- **inscription**: Content bound to a sat by ord, carried in a witness envelope. Under BTI's law the inscription is content, not a token: the inscribed sat is the token that claims the bytes.
- **lazy consensus**: The rule for day-to-day changes in the Degent code's governance. Maintainers seek consensus in the pull request review, and silence after a reasonable review period is consent. The owning team's approval plus green CI is enough to merge.

## FAQ

### How many Degents are there?

The collection is 10,000 when fully minted. Today there are 4,112 inscribed (as of 2026-09-25 23:24:51 UTC). The 10,000 is the size of the finished collection, not a count of Degents that exist.

### What does a Degent have to look like?

The club's minting rules ask for a square JPEG of at least 200KB, a Pepe character in a tuxedo with a mandatory bowtie, and the [frame with a placard](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/frame-and-placard/) saying "DEGEN", "DEGENT" or "REGEN". You may mint as many as you want.

### Why have older pages shown other counts?

A review of the site found three conflicting counts: the old site's 4,027 minted and 1,470 MB, 4,112 in the collection list, and 4,113 and 1,508 MB in an earlier analysis. It also calls the old "10K = 3+ GB" a projection presented as fact.

### Can I use the Degent art or name in my own project?

No. The code is Apache-2.0 and the docs CC BY 4.0, but the artwork, the comic, the collection's images, the names and the [frame and placard](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/frame-and-placard/) are not licensed. A fork must use its own name and art. Using the names to refer to the project is fine.

### Who decides changes to the code?

Each component's owning team reviews and merges by pull request, under [lazy consensus](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/lazy-consensus/). Significant decisions need an [Architecture Decision Record](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/architecture-decision-record/). Licensing, trademarks and the Code of Conduct are decided by Blockspace Holdings.
