## What it studies

The Labs site describes [lost sats](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/lost-sats/) as "sats that coinbase transactions never claimed, so they exist in no output", and asks "where and when they were lost."

[ord](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/ord/), which numbers every sat, counts them on its status page. The count says how many; the study asks which blocks lost them, and when.

## The data it will use

"ord sat index (/status lost_sats)": the count that the ord server behind [blockspace.to](/projects/blockspace.to/) reports on its public status page.

## The figure on the card

It is one of the Research cards that shows a current figure, because one already exists with an "as of". The card read **2,895,844,904 lost sats** at 2026-10-20 09:07:08 UTC. The wiki's own reading is 2,895,844,904 (as of block 972,320, 2026-10-20 12:17:53 UTC), from https://blockspace.to/status.

The count is the study's starting point. Where and when the sats were lost is the open question, and the card claims no answer yet.
