# Testing the BVT

Research: does the price per kilobyte track attributed bytes? A proposed empirical test of Blockspace Value Theory, an untested thesis.

## What it asks

The Labs site puts it in one question and one line: "Does the price per kilobyte track attributed bytes? An empirical test of the thesis."

The thesis is [Blockspace Value Theory](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/bvt/). In the site's own words it is "a living document and an untested thesis", and this wiki treats it the same way: BVT proposes that the bytes a token occupies on Bitcoin bear on its value. The [Blockspace Value Theory](/concepts/blockspace-value-theory/) page sets out what it proposes. This card describes a way to test it, not a result.

## How it would test it

Two Live projects already produce the two sides of the comparison:

- [the blockspace price](/research/blockspace-price/): asking prices across marketplaces, each turned into a [price per KB](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/price-per-kb/) of blockspace on [the buy board](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/buy-board/);
- the [Blockspace Token Indexer](https://blockspace.wiki/glossary/bti/): the bytes attributed to each token in [the three books](/concepts/the-three-books/).

The study asks whether the first tracks the second. The card names its data as "the buy board and the BTI books".

## Where it stands
