inscription number

Also: inscription numbers

An inscription's position in the ordering of all inscriptions: #0 was the first, at block 767,430, and cursed inscriptions carry negative numbers (the first was −1, at block 774,411). The number labels the artifact, the file, not the token or sat that owns it.

Blockspace Value Theory treats it as provenance: early numbers trade at a premium that "has no relationship whatsoever to bytes consumed". Space Blocks is inscription #83,851,681.
