The sub-1 sat/vB share
Research: hour by hour, how much of a mempool with no fee floor pays below 1 sat/vB, and what it would have paid at the default floor.
Status on blockspacelabs.com: Research.
What it studies #
The Labs site describes it as: "Hour by hour, how much of a mempool with no fee floor pays below 1 sat/vB, and what it would have paid at the default floor."
The Labs node's fee floor is 0 sat/vB (as of block 972,308, 2026-10-20 11:17:25 UTC), so its mempool holds transactions that pay less than Bitcoin Core's default of 1 sat/vB. The study turns single readings into a series: the share of the mempool below 1 sat/vB each hour, and the fees those transactions would have paid at 1 sat/vB.
The data it will use #
"bitcoind getrawmempool, read hourly by this site's refresh job." The site's hourly job already reads the mempool; the study keeps those readings as a series. A transaction counts as sub-1 when its base fee in sats is less than its vsize.
The figure on the card #
It is one of the Research cards that shows a current figure, because one already exists with an "as of". At 2026-10-20 09:07:08 UTC, block 972,298, the share was 98.1 % of transactions: 38,265 of 38,991. An earlier reading that day, at 08:32 UTC, found 43,585 of 44,646 (97.6 %). These are single readings, not the hourly series the study describes.
