Bytes outside the claim gate: a protocol-shaped operation that no token claims, because the protocol's own record shows no failure to cite (B31) or because no token exists to claim it (U5). Residue is measured demand, never backing, and its rows persist (B31a). A mint naming a tick that was never deployed, or a genesis that the protocol's own rules voided, is residue.
