What is blockspace?

The capacity of Bitcoin's blocks, as the block.space documents define and BTI measures it.

In the block.space documents, blockspace is the capacity of Bitcoin's blocks, consumed by transactions. Blockspace Value Theory calls it "a socially constructed commodity built on top of a protocol-enforced constraint" and argues it exists only while a block is being built. BTI measures what was consumed: every byte of every transaction, counted exactly, from the genesis block forward.
